Puthaandu 2018 and 2017
Puthaandu, also called Puthuvarusham, is celebrated as the traditional Hindu New Year in Tamil Nadu. This is the month of Chittirai, the first month of the Tamil solar calendar, and the new year day typically falls on 14th of April. In some parts of Southern Tamil Nadu, the festival is called Chittirai Vishu. On the previous evening of the new year day, a tray is set up with three fruits (mango, banana and jack fruit), betel leaves, arecanut, gold/silver jewellery, coins/money, flowers and a mirror. This is similar to the tray arranged for Vishu new year festival in Kerala. According to the Tamil tradition, it is believed to be auspicious to see this festive tray and the fruits in the mirror as soon as one wakes up on the morning of the new year day.
I don't know how many are following this custom nowadays, but I saw today a slightly modified tray with mirror in the house of Thiru KRV in Perundurai. A photo of this is attached below.
On some generally important days, we, in our clinic, arrange for a get together over a cup of tea or a plate of food for our staff members. This activity provides the staff members a pleasant diversion from the routine -- some de-stressing, some unwinding and some entertainment is experienced. It indirectly enhances the efficiency of the team. In any organisation, employees must be made to feel happy about the job. Happiness not only promotes better work but also keeps them healthy. A healthy person turns out better work. Mind plays an important role in everything. To know more about it, go to my 'scribbling' titled "HUMOUR and LAUGHTER" on this blog. A few photos taken on the occasion of this festival in 2018 and 2017 are attached below. HAPPY TIME !
