Dear friends,
It is my honour to extend my felicitations to you all on this historic celebration of “FRAGRANCE 50”. It’s a saga of 50 glorious years. It’s a memorable and exciting completion of 50 years of existence of the PG & Research Department of Botany, since 1973. And, it was my fortune to be associated with this outstanding faculty and its staff members, some two decades ago.
I acknowledge the exemplary academic performance of the faculty, and the affectionate association with the very cordial staff members and the very illustrious management of the college. They all had been very kind to me. It’s their reverence towards me that gives me the greatest happiness. I am ever-grateful to them for their affection and love.
I have no words to express my happiness and gratitude to you all, on this unique occasion. This historic event takes me down memory lane to the undefinable sweetness of the past. The fragrant nostalgic memories are my most cherished treasure.
It’s a thrilling feeling once in a while to rewind and soak in some evergreen memories … of the days of a whale of a time … strolling down memory lane …
Nostalgia filters away anything negative, of the past and the present as well, as can be evident in the famous quote of Woody Allen. Nostalgia. Nostalgia !
Woody Allen had brutally put in his 2011 movie ‘Midnight in Paris’: “Nostalgia is denial, denial of the painful present.” A delusional denial. It is just how nostalgia affects our brains. May the fragrance of the “FRAGRANCE 50” mask the malodour of the “OLD FOSSILS.” I wish you all a fragrant future. Thank you all.

அன்பிற்குரிய நண்பர்களே ! "FRAGRANCE 50" இன் இந்த வரலாற்றுக்கொண்டாட்டத்தில் உங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் எனது வாழ்த்துக்களை தெரிவிப்பதில் நான் மிகவும் பெருமிதம் கொள்கிறேன். இது 50 புகழ்பெற்றஆண்டுகளின் தொடர்கதை. 1973 ஆம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து தாவரவியல் துறையின் 50 ஆண்டுகால வாழ்க்கையின் மறக்கமுடியாத மற்றும் உற்சாகமானநிறைவு இது. மேலும், சுமார் இரண்டு தசாப்தங்களுக்கு முன்னர் இந்த சிறந்த ஆசிரியர் மற்றும் அதன் ஊழியர்களுடன் தொடர்புடையது எனதுஅதிர்ஷ்டம்.
ஆசிரியர்களின் முன்மாதிரியான கல்வித் திறனையும், மிகவும் அன்பான பணியாளர்கள் மற்றும் கல்லூரியின் மிகவும் புகழ்பெற்றநிர்வாகத்துடனான அன்பான தொடர்பையும் நான் ஒப்புக்கொள்கிறேன். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் என்னிடம் மிகவும் அன்பாக இருந்தார்கள். அவர்கள்என்மீது கொண்ட மரியாதைதான் எனக்கு மிகப்பெரிய மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தருகிறது. அவர்களின் பாசத்திற்கும் அன்பிற்கும் நான் எப்போதும் நன்றிஉள்ளவராக இருக்கிறேன். இந்த தனித்துவமான சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் உங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் எனது மகிழ்ச்சியையும் நன்றியையும் தெரிவிக்கஎன்னிடம் வார்த்தைகள் இல்லை. இந்த வரலாற்று நிகழ்வு என்னை நினைவுப் பாதையில் கடந்த காலத்தின் வரையறுக்க முடியாத இனிமைக்குஅழைத்துச் செல்கிறது. மணம் வீசும் ஏக்க நினைவுகள் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த பொக்கிஷம். ஒரு காலத்தில் பசுமையான நாட்கள்…. நினைவுப்பாதையில் உலா வருவதை... சில எப்பொழுதும் பசுமையான நினைவுகளில் ஊறவைப்பது சிலிர்க்க வைக்கும் உணர்வு.
வூடி ஆலனின் புகழ்பெற்ற மேற்கோளில் தெளிவாகத் தெரியும், கடந்த கால மற்றும் நிகழ்காலத்தின் எதிர்மறையான எதையும் ஏக்கம்வடிகட்டுகிறது. ஏக்கம். ஏக்கம் ! வூடி ஆலன், ஏக்கம் நம் மூளையை எப்படி பாதிக்கிறதென்று அவரது 2011-ம் ஆண்டு வெளிவந்த திரைப்படமான ‘மிட்நைட் இன் பாரிஸில்’ பதிவு செய்திருந்தார்: “ஏக்கம் என்பது மறுப்பு, வலி நிறைந்த நிகழ்காலத்தின் மறுப்பு.” ஒரு மாயையான மறுப்பு.தற்போதைய "FRAGRANCE 50" ஆனது "பழைய புதைபடிவங்களின்" விரும்பத்தகாத வாசனையை மாற்றியுள்ளது. உங்கள் அனைவருக்கும்நறுமணமிக்க எதிர்காலத்திற்கு வாழ்த்துகிறேன். உங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் நன்றி. வணக்கம்.
